20.10.2011. Conference “Participation of the State, Public and Faith-Based Organizations in Prevention of AIDS and Drug Addiction”
On the 18-19th of October the “Danilovskaya” hotel hosted the Conference “Participation of the State, Public and Faith-Based Organizations in Prevention of AIDS and Drug Addiction”, which has become the final conference of the project “Support to HIV and AIDS prevention and Palliative Care Initiatives of Faith-Based Organizations in the Russian Federation”, implemented jointly by UNDP, Federal Service on Surveillance of Consumers Rights and Human Well-Being, Russian Orthodox Church with financial support from USAID.
Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations opened the Conference, which comprised representatives of the international organizations, government structures, NGOs and faith-based organizations from 20 regions of Russia. Participants discussed the results of project implementation as well as perspectives of cooperation of state and faith-based organizations in Russia on HIV/AIDS and drug abuse prevention issues.
Summarizing the discussions conducted during the meeting, the Conference participants agreed on the development of the cross-sectoral working group on HIV/AIDS and drug abuse prevention issues, which will aim at coordination of the activities conducted in this sphere by the state, NGOs and the Churches. The Conference Resolution is now being finalized and upon completion of this process it will be posted on the web.
