19.10.2011. Conference on the project "Sustainable Integration and Recovery in North Ossetia - Alania"
On 14 October 2011 the Conference on the project "Sustainable Integration and Recovery in North Ossetia - Alania" was held in Vladikavkaz, Republic of North Ossetia-Alania. The Conference was organized by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) - the main project implementing agencies.
More than 60 persons participated in the Conference. The major part of the participants are the partners of the project in North Ossetia-Alania: the Ministry of External Relations and Public Affairs, the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Culture, the Employment Committee, credit cooperatives, business centers, local and international Non-Government Organizations (NGOs), journalist of the local newspapers, and the United Nations agencies, present in the Republic (Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), International Labour Organization (ILO), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS).
The main purpose of the Conference was to summarize the project and discuss the results achieved, solutions to problems and prospects of the project initiatives.
The Conference was opened with the welcoming words of Ms. Geshe Karrenbrok, Head of UNHCR in the Russian Federation (Moscow), and Ms. Elena Armand, Head of the UNDP Projects Support Office in the Russian Federation (Moscow).
The participants of the Conference discussed the project progress in economic development: support to business development of the Republic, the ILO training "Start and Improve Your Business" for entrepreneurs, the microfinance development, as well as infrastructural projects of quick implementation; in development of rural areas, including drafts of sustainable development programmes of the Republican Districts and mountain areas, the organization of cooperatives and District Extension Centers; in shelter projects based on “self-help” construction; as well as projects in the field of peacekeeping, including the organization of folklore festivals aimed at the cultural exchange, support to children's puppet theater, organization of linguistic camps for children and students, and support to local painters and sculptors of the Republic through assistance in organization of the International Symposium of Artists "Alanika-2010".
The representatives of the Government of the Republic and the project partners expressed their gratitude and a lot of warm words and wishes to United Nations Development Programme and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees - the main implementing partners of the project.
